When it comes to redesigning your kitchen, choosing the finish you want your custom cabinetry to be can be one of the hardest parts, especially if you aren’t familiar with the differences between materials like 2PAC and laminate. Although they are similar, there is a number of advantages and disadvantages to both that you should know about before you make your decision. In this guide, we explain the differences between 2PAC and laminate for kitchen cabinets.
They are two different finishes for kitchen cabinets. While 2PAC is a hardened paint finish that is applied to cupboard doors and drawers, laminate is a synthetic product made from plasticised sheets of paper compressed together. These are then glued to the MDF boards of your cupboard doors. Let's take a closer look at how both materials compare:
Laminate is very durable, so it's able to withstand typical scratches and damage with little wear and tear to show for it. However, although it is harder than 2PAC, Laminate is much more difficult to fix should chips or nicks occur. 2PAC can simply be touched up with paint to look brand new, so this may be the better option if you expect your kitchen to be subject to lots of wear and tear.

With 2PAC, you can mix your own paint and design the exact shade that you want with little limitation. You can’t do this with pre-made Laminate, but there are still hundreds of colours to choose from as well as a choice of effects such as stone or marble. If you are looking for a specific colour, 2PAC is the better choice in this regard.
As mentioned above, you can choose different effects for laminate which can add texture to your kitchen, but this will always be a flat surface. 2PAC holds an advantage over laminate here, as it can be used to achieve different levels of profiling and routing, which adds much more character.
Perhaps the most important aspect to consider is the price tag of both. 2PAC is by far the pricier option of the two, but it comes with a unique set of benefits as listed above. If you're wanting a textured kitchen that can be touched up easily and are willing to pay more for this, 2PAC is perhaps the choice for you. If you can skip on the profiling and are happy to choose from existing colours in order to save money on your custom kitchen, laminate is a brilliant alternative.
